Government plans to regularise FDH care-training schemes from April 2027

Confirmed Government announcement; planned from April 2027. The 2026 Policy Address says the Government will regularise the pilot training schemes for foreign domestic helpers in elderly care and care for persons with disabilities from April 2027 ↗.

What this means now

This is an announced future programme change. It is not a new employment, visa, or qualification requirement, and it does not mean every foreign domestic helper has care training. A helper also should not be presented as a nurse or other medical professional solely because of a training course.

Who may be affected

The change is relevant to employers and foreign domestic helpers considering the Government's current eldercare or disability-care training schemes. The Labour Department FAQ ↗ says interested employers and helpers can ask participating District Elderly Community Centres and District Support Centres for Persons with Disabilities about current classes and enrolment.

Practical next steps

If care support is part of your household's needs, describe the actual domestic duties and supervision needs before hiring. Ask an agency or candidate about any training factually, but verify the course, provider, and current availability directly. Do not assume the April 2027 arrangements, providers, eligibility, or course details until the Government publishes them.
